1957 Hudon Hornet Custom
Engine: V-8
Displacement: 327 Cubic Inches
Horsepower: 255 BHP
Cost New: $3,011
Hudson's final year was announced on October 25th, 1956, and just a few months later, the last Hudson rolled off the line. After joining with Nash to form American Motors, bot the Hudson and Nash nameplates were dropped at the end of 1957. The decision to focus on the Rambler meant that a long-revered Hudson name was passing into history, with the last Hornet rolling off the line on June 25th, 1957.
The ad slogan, "Hudson for 1957. Power's up! Price's down!" was referring to an 8% drop in price, and the new, standard, more powerful V-8. The 327 CID, designed by American Motors, came with a four-barrel carburetor and yielded 255 horsepower. Matched to the new engine was the Flash-Away Hydra-Matic transmission. Available on all models, the new transmission included a parking position that previous Hydra-Matics did not have.
Since this was the last year for Hudson, sales numbers were down, with the company selling only 3,108 vehicles in total, and only 1,256 of the Custom four-door sedans like this one. This Hudson is in its original condition, with no restoration and only 21,000 miles on the odometer.
