         After nearly sixty years as one of America's premier luxury automakers, 1958 was the last year for the Packard name. It is truly sad that after such a great history, the final vehicles were nothing more than dressed-up Studebakers. Packard could not overcome the pressure from Studebaker’s financial problems.
         The 1958 Packard Hawk looked very much like a Studebaker Golden Hawk. The biggest exception wa the odd front end that appeared on the Packards. A full-width oval grill that resembles a fish mouth was used on all four of the body styles that Packard offered.
         Besides the bizarre front styling, the Packard Hawk had a few other differences from the other Studebaker cars, including the gold-mylar tail fin inserts, a faux continental spare tire ring in the trunk lid, and a leather "armrest" that wrapped from the inside of the car over the top of the door, and onto the exterior of the car.
         The Hawk engine had 289 CID and a Jet-Stream supercharger. The hood had a non-functioning hood scoop to make room for the McCullough-made supercharger. There were only 588 Hawks made in 1958.
