The Garoutte Family

The Garoutte family was originally from the Accoules, a part of the city of Marseille, just North of the Old Port. The church where Antoine (in 1695) and Michel Garoutte (in 1750) were cristened was destroyed during the French Revolution. The family tree below came from the internet, with information I added from a book, "The Garoutte History, 1775-1975," by Ellan Douglas Thiesen. In this tree, you can find William Cecil Headrick and Edith Finklestein, who were my grandparents.

Variations: Garoute, Garouste, Garoust, Garout, Garou
Meaning: "one who came from the village of Garoreste in France," according to information on the internet. Garéoult, perhaps? The village of Garéoult is 65 km. East of Marseille, 18 km. beyond Signes, where Madeleine Garoutte, a sister of Michel Garoutte, lived with Cesar Antoine D'Espinassy de Venel.

The scans in the next page support the information about the family trees that I found on the internet about the Garoutte, de Lascours, d'Espinassy, Lovette and Headrick families. I believe the material was written by Henri Garoutte in Marseille, France, to Admiral Leland Lovette in Greeneville, TN, in 1959.
